Annabell Lee By Edgar Allan Poe

For my Honors Portfolio class with Kazu Sano we were given a handout with 3 songs and a poem and asked to illustrate it. i chose the Poe poem and this is it. watercolor and gouache.


It was many and many a year ago,
In a kingdom by the sea,
That a maiden there lived whom you may know
By the name of ANNABEL LEE;
And this maiden she lived with no other thought
Than to love and be loved by me.

I was a child and she was a child,
In this kingdom by the sea;
But we loved with a love that was more than love-
I and my Annabel Lee;
With a love that the winged seraphs of heaven
Coveted her and me.

And this was the reason that, long ago,
In this kingdom by the sea,
A wind blew out of a cloud, chilling
My beautiful Annabel Lee;
So that her highborn kinsman came
And bore her away from me,
To shut her up in a sepulchre
In this kingdom by the sea.

The angels, not half so happy in heaven,
Went envying her and me-
Yes!- that was the reason (as all men know,
In this kingdom by the sea)
That the wind came out of the cloud by night,
Chilling and killing my Annabel Lee.

But our love it was stronger by far than the love
Of those who were older than we-
Of many far wiser than we-
And neither the angels in heaven above,
Nor the demons down under the sea,

Giants Magazine Contest!

One of my class assignments for Kazu Sano's Honors Portfolio class is to do a magazine cover of a famous person. But we could if we wanted tried to do a spot illustration for a contest for the San Francisco Giants magazine, a portrait of Giants majority owner Bill Neukom. So I chose that assignment. Just finished the painting around 2:30 am and here it is. I kinda wanted to do a charicture and give a shout out to the big head shirts of the late 80's of sports stars, mixed with the children's books style of my work. Hope you dig!...

Originally i chose a different one, but ended up thinking i could do this sentence better justice with the style of work i enjoy.

This is a gift for my favorite neighborhood bar here in San Francisco. A couple of years ago i was in there and i did a sketch of a asian dude riding a vespa with a scorpion decal with a hot chick on the back holding one of their trademark drinks the scorpion bowl it's a rum concoction that hits you like a scorpions sting. I gave that sketch to the bartender and they framed it and hung it on the wall. the next time i went in the bartender showed me the drawing hanging up and told me nothings been hung up on the walls since the 80's. since then i've developed quite a friendship with all the people who work there and wanted to do a painting for them. should give it to them in the next couple of days.
